General Information 

Deadline for Application: January 31, 2026

Duration of Funding: The award is for 1 year based on a 12-month academic year from July 1 to June 30.

 This fellowship grant is intended to provide funding to an institution’s  fellowship program to support one fellow in his or her post-graduate  fellowship program. Support is limited to direct costs, such as salary,  benefits, and educational expenses. The grant may not be used for  indirect costs. Below are the requirements of the AO CMF North America  Fellowship Program accountability, funding, and payment policies.  

A limited number of Fellowship Awards are available. The number of awards granted will be determined based on the allocation of funds determined  by the AO CMF North America Board of Directors.

The amount of funding between $8,000 to $25k will be awarded per award. Lesser amounts may be awarded at the discretion of the AO CMF NA Board.

     

Institutional Requirements

 

The fellow’s training shall be spent in a clinical setting under the  direction of the Fellowship Program Director and clinical faculty of the institution. This period of time must provide the fellow with an  organized, comprehensive, supervised, full-time educational experience  in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgery, including the management of patients, the performance of surgical procedures and the integration of surgical therapies and diagnostic modalities into the clinical  management of the patient.

 

Applicants for the fellowship position will be chosen solely by the institution. The Fellowship  Program Director and teaching staff are responsible for the general  administration of the program, including activities related to the  recruitment, selection, instruction, supervision, counseling, and  evaluation/advancement of the fellow. Fellowship Program Directors will  be required to maintain and submit periodic evaluations related to the  fellow’s performance during the period of training to verify that the  fellow has demonstrated sufficient professional ability to practice  competently and independently. Fellowship directors must be an active AO CMF North America Faculty member. 

 

Fellow Requirements

The Fellow must attend one Management of Facial Trauma Course and one Advanced Course offered by AO North America during the fellowship year.  Additionally, fellows must submit an article to a journal of their choosing during the fellowship year.
